Birth options
Settings: Home Birth Center Hospital Care-providers: CPM – Home or Birth Center There are several paths to becoming a home-birth midwife. In US, CPM’s cannot attend you in the hospital, although they will (or should) accompany you in the event of a transport. CNM – Home, Birth Center or hospital The CNM becomes an RN first and then goes on to become a midwife. Because of this extra training, for the most part, they practice in a hospital setting. There are a few that attend home birth in this state and a few that work in birth centers. OB – Hospital OB’s attend couples in the hospital. This is an MD. Family Practice Dr – Hospital Family practice Dr’s attend in the hospital. There are a few out there that will attend at home but that is very uncommon. Doula – Not primary care-giver but will attend in any location |
